Kala Utsav

Kala Utsav is an initiative of the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD),Government of India, launched in 2015,to promote arts in education, by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students in the country. The Ministry of Human Resource Development recognizes the importance of aesthetics and artistic experiences for secondary-level students, which plays a major role in creating awareness about India’s rich cultural heritage and its vibrant diversity.In the context of education of Arts(Music,Dance,Visual Arts and Crafts ),the initiative is guided by the recommendations of the National Curriculum Framework 2005 (NCF-2005).Cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh will be enriched by conducting cultural events in school through Kala Utsav.

Objectives

• To enhance awareness of India’s cultural heritage and its vibrant diversity among students, teachers, teacher educators, administrators and other stakeholders.
• To promote networking of artists in the school education.
• To organize annual event, KalaUtsav focusing on (Music-vocal, Music Instrumental, Painting & Dance).
• This event will be the culmination of activities that will begin with sch
ools conducting and identifying talents to represent it at Block level, District level and the District to the state then at National level.
• To mainstream CWSN and students of diverse Socio-economic backgrounds and to provide an opportunity and favorable environment to nurture and showcase their talents.

Strategy

• Shimla District has 21 Educational Blocks. All the Sen.Sec.schools and High schools prepare students for Kala Utsav Competition in the art form of Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Dance and Painting.
• Levels of Kala Utsav in District Shimla.

Block Level Kala Utsav:- gets organized in each of the 21 blocks in District Shimla in which schools of the respective blocks participants . District Level Kala Utsav:- Winners of the block level Kala Utsav compete in the District Level Kala Utsav and winner of selected for District Level Kala Utsav Compete State level Kala Utsav. The last Event for winners is National level Kala Utsav.
